Current Version of Stratesave has following limits:
·Max. size of backup output file on fixed disk and removable disks:
Unlimited. When backing up to fixed disk, the backup is stored in a single file. From Stratesave's point, the backups can have unlimited size, but some restrictions are given by the filesystem as follows:
Filesystem FAT limits filesize to 2GBytes, FAT32 to 4GBytes. With compressed backups, you can backup more than 2 or 4 GBytes data, but backup output file on FAT or FAT32 storage disks is limited to 2 or 4 GBytes. This is no problem with NTFS, the filesystem for Windows 2003/2000/XP/NT, which allows files with unlimited size.
·Max. size of backup to tape: Unlimited
·Not all tape drives are supported. Fully supported are SCSI DAT, DLT, 8mm (including Mammoth). SCSI Travan drives are supported, but only one backup can be stored on every tape. Unsupported are OnStream drives. Non-SCSI DAT, DLT, 8mm drives, for which a Windows tape driver is installed, should work in principle, but they have not been extensively tested.
·Extending backups over several tapes (multi volume backup) currently does not work with some tape drives. It works with SCSI DAT, DLT, Exabyte 8mm drives though.
·Appending backups on tapes (=storing several backups on the same tape one behind the other) works with most, but not with all tape devices. It does not work with Travan, HP Collorado.
·TAR-format: Standard tar format has limitations in file name length (max. 100 characters) and has no fields for PC specific file information (file attributes, security etc.). Stratesave stores the supplemental information at other location. If you restore a Stratesave backup with a standard TAR-program, these informations will not be restored. It is therefore recommended to restore with Stratesave restore program. Restore Stratesave backup with a Tar program is only a last resort, if Stratesave restore program is no more available for some reason or fails.
·Unicode files backup: Stratesave for Windows 2003/XP/2000/NT is fully Unicode compatible, and supports backup of all files, directories and databases with international character names (e.g. Japanese, Chinese, Hebrew, etc.).
