Quick Intro to Macro Editor

With the macro editor you can create the plan, after which your PC will be backed up. The plan will be stored as a Macro in file Macroname.STM. The prefered Macroname is the networkname of your PC. The networkname is the default macroname and will be loaded automatically by backup and restore programs. The networkname also clearly distinguishes the backups, if several PCs are backed up to the same server.

To create a macro, start with command General in Menu Edit. In the following dialog, you can specify directory where backup Log, will be stored, and device settings for backups to tape/removable disks. For Stratesave Unix, server specific definitions are also made here. Then define the desired backup periods with the submenu Define periods + backup storage in menu Edit. You can specify the backup media (tapes, fixed disks or removable disks) and backup location. The directories to be backed up can be selected with submenu Directories / Databases in menu Edit. With the submenus Time plan, Differential backup and Special backup parameters you can specify additional parameters for your backups.

Please note that only one macro should be created for the backup of your files and directories. This macro then contains all the periods. The system of differential and full-backups does not work if one macro is used for daily backups and another one for weekly backups. Several macros might be used to backup different data, but not for the same directories or databases.
